Act III, scene 5

Scene 5 Cite the examples of weird death talk during Romeo and Juliet’s farewell scene.  Pay special attention to lines 54-58. Lady Capulet misunderstands Juliet’s sadness, and Juliet does not want her to know what has happened.  What does Juliet say about Tybalt and Romeo to keep the truth from her mother (lines 86-107)? What is Juliet’s response when she is told the news that she is to marry Paris (lines 121-128)?  How has she changed since Act 1? What is her mother’s reaction to Juliet’s response (line 129-130 and lines 144-145)? Look at lines 146-207.  What is Lord Capulet’s response to Juliet’s refusal to marry Paris? Cite evidence that Juliet is getting increasingly suicidal. What does the Nurse advise Juliet to do (lines 230-240)?  What is her reasoning? After the Nurse leaves and Juliet is alone, what does Juliet decide to do (lines 254-255)?

Act III, scenes 2-4
